Ballistol resinifys... Ballistol is becomes sticky...!
What nonsense!
We clarify misleading statements, myths, and ignorance.
For over a century, Ballistol Universal Oil has been synonymous with reliable protection, care, and cleaning - without any resin build-up. But what does that actually mean, and why is Ballistol Universal Oil so exceptionally durable?
Long-term reliability based on tradition
An impressive example of the durability of Ballistol Universal Oil is provided by a bottle from 1925, which was rediscovered 60 years later in 1985. Although the oil had darkened slightly over time – a natural process for products with a high natural content – analytical testing showed no deviations from freshly manufactured Ballistol Universal Oil. This result underscores the exceptional stability and quality that has been guaranteed for over 120 years according to the original recipe.
Further evidence of the long-lasting effect comes from the post-war period: several carbines and hunting weapons were cleaned with Ballistol Universal Oil immediately after World War II, preserved, and carefully stored in a basement. After 25 years, a sworn expert opened the box – the result was impressive: no rust, no resinification of the oil, and the weapons were in perfect working order. These practical examples speak for themselves and confirm the outstanding reliability of the product.
What is resinification – and why does it not occur with Ballistol Universal Oil?
Resinification describes a chemical aging process in which organic oils react with oxygen, moisture, and microorganisms to form viscous, sticky masses. This process creates large molecular compounds that can stick to surfaces and impair functionality. Many conventional oils are affected by this, which makes them difficult to use over the long term.
Ballistol Universal Oil, on the other hand, is based on medically pure white oil (Paraffinum liquidum) in its purest form and contains natural antioxidants that act as oxygen scavengers. This special composition prevents oxidative attack and thus the formation of resinification. Instead, Ballistol protects and cares for surfaces sustainably without leaving any residue.
A common misconception concerns the white, Vaseline-like film that forms after applying Ballistol Universal Oil. This coating is not a sign of resinification, but the result of a natural physical process: the evaporation of the oil's volatile components leaves behind a resin- and acid-free lubricating film that serves as a protective and lubricating agent. Unlike chemically induced resinification, this film is beneficial and functional.
